Several jazz combos are created each year from within the jazz ensembles and may include some players who are studying jazz improvisation and/or may be unable to participate in the larger jazz ensembles. These groups perform on campus and at local coffeehouses and restaurants, as well as occasional private parties. While the groups usually rehearse independently, they are coached from time to time by Steve Wright and Rick Orpen, who teaches jazz guitar and improvisation.
