German Students

Being a German major at Gustavus is incredibly rewarding. My favorite part about being a German Major at Gustavus is the comradery within the department. All the students know and are friends with each other, and the faculty is helpful, easy-going, and interesting. Gustavus' German department is dedicated to giving students a true German experience - whether it be through specialized course topics, a German Kaffeestunde, an active German Club, and several semester, year-long, or J-Term study abroad opportunities.

Why study German?

Aside from the obvious answer of increasing one's cultural awareness through fluency and studying in Germany, there are many rewarding career opportunities for German Majors. Employers look highly upon anyone with knowledge of German and are actively searching for workers in fields such as teaching, international business and law, international relations, and translation. Furthermore, the chance to study abroad and put one's German abilities to the test is a once in a lifetime experience.
