German City Information

When considering study abroad programs, you should think carefully about the area of Germany in which you want to live. German colleges differ a lot between big cities and smaller college towns. For example, let us compare a large city such as Berlin to a smaller city, such as Freiburg or Heidelberg.
  • Berlin, the capitol, holds about 4 million citizens and is one of the biggest cities in Germany. Berlin is full of life and offers everything from cultural and historical highlights to one of the biggest nightlife scenes in Europe. In the summer the city offers many outdoor events and is a great place to visit. And the winter is almost as cold as in Minnesota.
  • Freiburg and Heidelberg are smaller university cities in the south of Germany. For people from small towns, these places can be more familiar and personable. The location is perfect for exploring the beautiful landscape and taking trips to nearby locations such as the Alps, Switzerland and France.
