The library subscribes to a variety of electronic indexes and online databases. The databases described below are accessible via the campus network, the web, or stand-alone CD-ROMs that are only available from library workstations. Some systems require passwords, some offer full-text articles, and some include links to our periodical holdings. Most of these databases contain references to materials not owned by the library, but which are available through Interlibrary Loan. Subscriptions are limited to the Gustavus community. Early English Books Online Early English Books Online (EEBO) contains digital facsimile page images of nearly 100,000 books in English printed between 1473 and 1700 - virtually every work printed in England, Ireland, Scotland, Wales and British North America, plus works in English printed elsewhere. ERIC ERIC is the major index to literature in education. Sponsored by the U.S. Department of Education, it provides full citations and abstracts for journal articles, books, curricula, government documents, dissertations, and research reports selected by the Institute of Education Sciences (IES). It indexes more than 5,700 major journals across 164 scientific disciplines. In addition, it is possible to search for works that have cited a specific author or a specific work. SciFinder Scholar SciFinder Scholar retrieves information contained in databases produced by Chemical Abstracts Service (CAS): CAplus (contains over 19.6 million documents from more than 8,000 journals), CAS REGISTRY (provides access to 32 million specific chemical substances), and CASREACT (provides access to reaction information for more than 5 million single- and multiple-step reactions). For many substances, one may also obtain chemical source and regulatory information from the CHEMCATS and CHEMLIST databases. In addition, SciFinder Scholar also includes the over 19.6 million citations from MEDLINE, produced by the National Library of Medicine (see above).
