The processing and stacks maintenance department physically prepares library materials for circulation and maintains the organization of those materials in the "stacks," or library shelving.
The majority of this work is performed by student employees, whose attention to detail help keep the library collections organized and easy to use.
Tasks performed by this department include:
- Reshelving circulated books
- Processing all new library materials (applying protective coverings, spine labels, and ownership stamps, etc.)
- Shelf reading (making sure items on the shelves are in the proper order)
- Inventory of collections
- Monitoring the library environment (temperature, humidity, etc.)
- Repair of damaged or worn items
