LibX Gustavus Adolphus College Edition is a Firefox extension that provides direct access to the Library's resources. It features:

==> Toolbar & right-click context menu: Search the library catalog directly from the LibX toolbar (above) or by using the right-click context menu (right). Just highlight the term you want to search, right click, and choose the search option you need. Use the blue down-arrow in the toolbar to add a search box and construct advanced searches. You can also select text and drag-and-drop it onto the search button to execute a search.

The right-click context menu changes automatically depending on what is selected. For instance, if an ISBN is selected, the context menu will offer the option to search directly using that specific identifier. Currently recognized are CrossRef DOIs, ISBNs, ISSNs, and PubMed IDs.

OpenURL support: LibX gives direct access to the Gustavus Journal Locator and menu, using the OpenURL?standard to point you to the full text of an article or link to you interlibrary loan. OpenURL can also work well in connection with Google Scholar.

Google Scholar Support (The 'Magic Button'): Select text and search for the selected text on Google Scholar. LibX will read Scholar's results for you, determine whether a cited paper was found and, if so, ask the Journal Locator to link to a subscribed copy, should you not have access to the copy to which Scholar links. You can use this feature even from inside a PDF, which makes retrieving papers referenced in a PDF file a snap.

<== Support for embedded cues: LibX places linked cues in web pages you visit if the library has resources related to that page. Whenever you see the cue, click on the link to look at what the library has to offer. For instance, book pages at Amazon or Barnes & Noble contain cues that can check whether the library has the book you are looking to buy. Other pages that contain cues are Google, Yahoo! Search, the NY Times Book Review, and others. See the screencasts in Demo 3 for examples of this cool feature.

Autolinking: LibX automatically links ISBNs, ISSNs, DOIs, PubMed IDs, and other identifiers to the catalog or OpenURL resolver. Based on Jesse Ruderman's autolinking script.

Support for COinS: LibX supports COinS, which can turn hidden tags inserted by web site authors or publishers into actionable OpenURL links that allow a user to download the full text of an item. More information on COinS.

Support for xISBN: A book title can have different ISBNs for paperback copies, hardcover copies, and even for different editions. LibX supports OCLC's xISBN service: you can find a book at Gustavus, given an ISBN, even if we hold this book under a different ISBN.
