How will I know when my books and articles are here?
When a loan or photocopy arrives, you will be notified by e-mail. Items may be picked up at the Circulation Desk. Most articles will be delivered electronically; you will receive an e-mail with a URL where you can retrieve them online. In some cases, photocopies are sent directly to you.
How long does it take?
Articles: Most articles are available from the University of
Minnesota and are sent electronically. These are generally available
within in 2-3 days. Others (not owned by U. of M.) will take longer.
Books: Turnaround time varies greatly depending on the nature of the material, the location of the lender, etc. Please try to allow ample time - a week or more - to ensure that you will get your material.
Requests are processed within 24 hours with the exception of unusual or
hard-to-find material. All requests are treated as priority, and
materials are always ordered from local libraries if possible. The
"need-by" date does not speed up the processing, but it tells us how long
we should keep looking for items not readily available.
Materials generally not available through ILL
- Gustavus materials owned and available
- Very recently published books
- Multi-volume works of three or more volumes
- Entire issues of periodicals
- Reference books
- Rare books or original manuscripts
- Some dissertations and theses
Returning Books
Books borrowed through interlibray loan should be returned to the Circulation
Desk or one of the library book drops with the ILL book mark in view. You
may keep photocopies.
