Lutheran Church Archives

The genealogical sources available are the microfilmed historical church records (up to approximately 1930) of the Minnesota and Red River Valley Conferences of the former Lutheran Augustana Synod. These records are from congregations located in Minnesota, western Wisconsin, North and South Dakota, and a small part of eastern Montana. Also available are biographical information related to clergy and other church leaders.

We are not able to conduct research in response to written or telephoned inquiries. However researchers are welcome to visit the Lutheran Church Archives to carry out their own research. To make an appointment, contact Edi Thorstensson at bubbles@gustavus.edu or call (507) 933-7554 at least one week in advance of your planned visit.

Should you be unable to visit the Archives, or if your inquiry does not match our resources, we suggest you contact the Swenson Swedish Immigration Research Center, Augustana College, Rock Island, Illinois, which is a major resource for genealogical research both here and in Sweden, as well as an experienced staff to help search.

College Archives

The College Archives holds information regarding alumni, faculty, and staff of Gustavus Adolphus College and its forerunner, St. Ansgar's Academy, and of Minnesota College, which was located in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Please specify at which institution and during what time period the person studied or was employed. Searches will be done on a time permitting basis. For information about individuals at the College we need to know the name of the person, their association (faculty, student, etc.) and years at Gustavus.
