World Development Indicators
Quick Guide
Finding Data for a Comparative Norm Group
- Under the 'Query' tab, click on 'Countries'
- On the 'Countries' screen, select 'Classification'
- Your choices for Classification include geographical regions, income groups, and lending categories.
Creating Charts/Graphs
- Once you have the results of a query, select the data you would like
to
chart. (Select the data by clicking and dragging your mouse across the
cells.)
- After the cells are selected, click on the chart icon (near the upper
right corner of the screen).
- If you get an error message that asks you to "select a smaller range
of
cells," you're probably trying to chart several years of data and so you
clicked on a row and highlighted the whole thing. Instead, try clicking
on the first cell you'd like charted, hold the shift key down, and move
your screen so you can see the last cell you'd like charted. Click on the
last cell and it will highlight those two cells and everything in between.
Incorporating a Chart/Graph into a Word Document
- On the screen that shows the image of your chart, click on 'Save.'
- Select 'bitmap' as the type of file.
- Open your Microsoft Word document and, under the 'Insert' menu, choose
'Picture'
- Select 'From File' and locate your saved chart file
Exporting the Data to an Excel Spreadsheet
- Once you have your results the way you want them, go under the File
menu
and choose 'Export Data.'
- At the next screen, choose Excel as the file type and then select the
data you would like to export.
- Click 'Ok.'
- Give it a file name and save the file in your location of choice (A
drive, C drive, etc.).
