Employee Expectations
The following are firm rules that are intended to
clearly convey to you the library's expectations for your work. Your annual performance review is based
largely on these criteria:
1. Absence without prior approval is not allowed (exceptions: sudden illness or injury, bad driving weather. You must arrange for your own substitute. If you are unsuccessful in finding a substitute, it is expected that you will cancel your other plans.
2.
You are expected to
attend regularly scheduled department meetings.
3.
You are expected to
work through all regularly assigned work shifts before and immediately after holidays,
breaks, vacations, and finals.
4.
Violence in the
workplace cannot be tolerated. Any such
act committed by student staff while working is considered grounds for
immediate termination.
5.
Courteous behavior
is expected at all times. Always address
patrons and coworkers in a civil fashion.
Bring unresolved disagreements to a supervisor immediately.
6.
Limited study at
the Circulation Desk is permitted only when all other work is completed.
Please keep book bags and study materials off of counters and out of
public sight. Hang up your coats in the
area provided.
7.
Socializing with
friends or working with a study group should never be a planned activity while
you are working. Please encourage
friends who want to chat while you are working to contact you at a later time.
8.
You should not make
or receive personal phone calls during your work shift, except in the case of
an emergency or with permission.
9.
Appropriate
appearance is important in the public area of
the library. Dress in clean, whole garments.
Keep your shoes on at all times. Do not lounge on counter tops or put
your feet up on desks or furniture.
10.
Food and portable
music devices are not permitted at the Circulation Services counters. Your beverages must be in covered containers.
