The coaching minor may be completed by any Gustavus student. It satisfies standards created by the state of Minnesota and the National Association for Sport and Physical Education. Students complete coursework designed to improve knowledge of coaching fundamentals, facilitate skill development, and enhance safety.

Aaron Banks and Bonnie Reimann presented two articles at the 2008 World Leisure Congress in Quebec City, Quebec, Canada. The first article was entitled "Leisure according to the popular film ‘The Breakfast Club'". Banks & Reimann presented the audience with a strategy to introduce the leisure concept within an introductory leisure studies course. The second article was entitled "Adirondack chairs and leisure courses? Developing service learning within the leisure concept". Banks & Reimann discussed the differences between community service and service learning, while also describing a service learning project.
