Athletic Training Education Program

Housed within the Health and Exercise Science department, Gustavus Adolphus College offers a comprehensive curriculum program for students interested in the profession of athletic training. Being only one of five athletic training programs offered within the state of Minnesota, Gustavus’ program is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education programs (CAAHEP). Through a combination of core athletic training classes and clinical laboratory courses, along with hands-on experience with 25 athletic teams offered at Gustavus Adolphus College, students gain knowledge necessary to be successful in the profession of athletic training. Sophomores are evaluated during the academic year with a limited number accepted into the major. After completion of the program and sitting for the Board of Certification (BOC) exam, students are well prepared to begin careers as athletic trainers in a variety of health care settings including high schools, colleges, professional teams, hospitals, clinics, and industrial settings. Students are also well prepared for graduate study in related fields.

For further information, visit the department’s website or contact Dr. John Mattson at: (507) 933-7674 or by email jmattson@gustavus.edu
