• IRIS global seismic monitor. Shows locations of earthquakes globally over the last five years. Great resource for current earthquakes and you can link to see seismometers around the world.
• Virtual Earthquake. A website designed to teach the fundamentals of earthquakes and seismology. This is used in the Principles of Geology (GEO 111) class at Gustavus.

• GSA Quaternary Geology and Geomorphology homepage. The QG&G is the second largest division of the GSA. This site contains information about Quaternary research by GSA members, funding opportunities and activities of the GSA.
• American Quaternary Association. The AMQUA is a small society of geoscientists that studies many aspects of the Quaternary Period. This site contains information about upcoming meetings, benefits of membership, job opportunities and announcements of the AMQUA.
• The International Union for Quaternary Research. The INQUA is similar to AMQUA, but includes a much broader membership that spans the globe.

• U.S. Geological Survey homepage. The "Gateway" into the major federal office for geological resources.
• National Water and Climate Center. The USDA maintains this website that contains information, links and data about recent climate change, particularly in the western U.S.

Geographical Information Systems (GIS)

• GIS data depot. This site contains abundant GIS data from around the world, although most available data are from the U.S.
• Minnesota GIS data. Site supported by the Minnesota DNR, digital elevation models can be downloaded for free.
• NOAA GLOBE project homepage. The national elevation dataset, large-scale digital elevation models can be retrieved here.

Geological Time

• University of Washington's CALIB 14C calibration program. A web-based program supported by the U of W that converts radiocarbon ages into calendar-year ages.

Topographic Maps

• Visualizing Topography. This site is designed by a Stephen Reynolds (Arizona State University) and provides several practice exercises for interpreting topographic maps.

Plate Tectonics

• Global paleogeography (Blakley). Sweet reconstructions of paleogeography maps for any time period
• Global tectonic reconstructions (Blakey). More reconstructions of paleotectonics displaying plates, oceans, ridges, subduction zones and mountain belts for most time periods

Paleontology
