M.A. New School for Social Research; University of Arizona, B.A., M.A., Ph.D.
I'm new to Gustavus and will be teaching a variety of film and literature courses. I'm particularly interested in the intersection between literature and film, and how visual culture shapes literature. I recently completed my PhD at the University of Arizona in Tucson and wrote my dissertation on the historical deployment of paranoia around fears of the border and terrorism. Currently, I'm interested in politics and culture and, in particular, the representations of politics, politicians, torture and war in both literature and film. I'm deeply committed to visual and cultural literacy and believe that the English major should train students to become actively engaged in reading and interpreting the world around them, and have fun in the process.
I'm also a musician and have recently been learning to record music. I like to listen to music, of course, and have been spending a lot of time listening to and reading about post-punk music.
