Summer Coaching Institute

 
 

Gustavus Adolphus College and its nationally recognized speech team are proud to offer the first annual Summer Coaching Institute for high school coaches to be held on the Gustavus campus July 26-August 1, 2009. The coaching institute will run in conjunction with the Gustavus Summer Speech Institute. If you are new to the activity or have extensive coaching experience, the Gustavus Coaching Institute offers you the opportunity to hone your craft and to develop the expertise and confidence necessary to coach your students to compete at the highest level.

Coaching Institute Goals:

  • Expand theoretical knowledge in oral interpretation, public address, and limited preparation events
  • Locate quality literature and public address topics
  • Work one on one with experienced high school coaches
  • Develop fundraising and recruiting strategies
  • Address challenges facing new coaches and the activity

In addition to theoretical lectures, everyone will learn vocal warm-ups, tournament etiquette, competitive ethics, and the values of excellence, preparation, revision, and embracing competition.

Credit Options:

  • Continuing Education Units (You will be awarded a certificate upon completion.)
  • 1-3 graduate credits at $225 per graduate credit

Tentative Tuition Cost: (June 15 deadline):

Commuter Tuition $475 (Add an additional $225 per graduate credit)
Regular Tuition $575 (Add an additional $225 per graduate credit)

  • Three meals a day prepared by our nationally recognized dining services
  • Housing at Gustavus Adolphus College
  • Photocopying, camp mementoes, t-shirt and fun evening activities

Gustavus Forensics:

Forensics has a long tradition of excellence at Gustavus Adolphus College. A few program highlights include:

  • Top 20 at the 2008 and 2007 American Forensics Association National Individual Events Tournaments.            
  • Three American Forensics Association National Individual Events Tournament All-Americans in six years.
  • Qualified for the Interstate Oratorical Association National Contest four consecutive years, including a 4th place finish in 2008.
  • 2008 Minnesota Collegiate Forensics Association State Champions.
