Crime and violence, as well as unexpected difficulties, occur in all parts of the world. In the following links a great deal of information regarding your safety and your responsibilities in regard to maintaining this safety are discussed. In the text of these links you must make sure as you are reading that you click on Country Specific Information AND click on the country you will be visiting. Thoroughly acquaint yourself with the information provided regarding your country in the State Department Country Specific Information sheets. These sheets include every country of the world with information on such matters as the health conditions, crime, unusual currency or entry requirements, any areas of instability, and the location of the nearest U.S. embassy or consulate in the subject country.

In the event of an illness or an emergency you should do the following in order:

  1. Contact the Program Coordinator or Gustavus faculty member on site.
  2. Contact the Gustavus Center for International and Cultural Education.
  3. Contact your parents.
