Your safety, and that of your students, is of primary importance to us. To ensure the health and safety of all participants in off-campus study, the following conditions should be observed:
All Gustavus students and accompanying faculty members are covered under Gustavus Adolphus College insurance administered by Educational and Institutional Insurance Administrators (EIIA), policy #WR10003936 (policy number may change each year). This insurance provides secondary coverage for international emergencies and accidents as well as other benefits. Pre-existing conditions are not covered.
Students and accompanying faculty members on Gustavus-run semester or short-term international programs, and other semester and year-long students who choose to add this coverage, are covered under Gustavus Adolphus College insurance with HTH Worldwide, policy #HM-3103-A-09. This insurance will serve as primary health insurance in the host country and will provide medical benefits for injury and sickness and includes coverage for pre-existing conditions and prescription drugs. For more information, see the HTH brochure.
Gustavus works closely with instructors and students as they plan their off-campus study so that they will have the best experience possible. In the event that an emergency occurs, Gustavus has a management plan that is immediately activated. A brief description of the role course instructors play in this process should be reviewed as you consider your January Interim course. Contact the Director of International and Cultural Education for more detailed information about the crisis management plan.
Program instructors or supervisors have the full authority to act on behalf of the College in any matter concerning the academic program, travel procedures, or student personnel. Instructors and program supervisors should consult with the Director of CICE in such matters. Should it be decided that a student must be separated from the program because of violation of rules, disruptive behavior, or conduct which could bring disrepute to the program or the College, that decision will be final. Separation from the program will also result in loss of academic credit.
